RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Student/Family Support- Handling a caseload of students (9th-12 grade), and directing all aspects of the comprehensive college counseling program. This includes, but is not limited to:
○ Coordinating group and individual meetings with students and families
○ Writing a personal letter of recommendation for all senior advisees
○ Remaining current with college admission trends and educating students and parents about these trends
○ Submitting application support documents as needed
○ Serving as a liaison between and communicating with students, families, and college admission offices, as needed
○ Assisting with the upkeep of Naviance, website, and other resources
Programming- Coordinating college counseling programs (day and evening) throughout the school year
- Coordinating and hosting college adm ission representative visits to Gonzaga Prep
- Collaborating with all members of the Counseling Department to implement effective counseling strategies, programming, and best practices
- Working with the administration an
d academic departments to coordinate senior graduation awards and other scholarship awards programs
Professional Development- Developing and maintaining relationships with colleges through attendance at conferences, counselor information meetings, and college visits
- Participating in professional development and maintaining membership in professional organizations to promote self -growth, build relationships, and remain current with programs, policies, and practices that meet the needs of students
General Duties- Collaborates with teachers and school administration to support student growth and wellness
- Collaborates with the admissions department to welcome incoming 9th grade students and families
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal and Academic Vice Principal
Minimum Qualifications/Skills:- A bachelor’s degree is required, a master’s degree in educational psychology/school counseling, college student personnel, or related field is preferred
- Three to five years of experience in high school college counseling and/or college admissions is preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a collaborative team
- Excellent interpersonal, writing, communication and organizational skills - strong attention to detail is a necessity
- Clear communicator; comfortable speaking publicly in large group settings, as well as engaging one-on-one with students and parents
- Working knowledge of colleges and universities nationwide: their academic programs, admissions policies, financial aid policies and procedures, etc.

Catechists (2) part-time – St. Charles Catholic School
St. Charles Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
Positions Available: Two (2) part-time lead catechistsGeneral Description:
The primary role of the Catechist is to lead the atrium and assist the Atrium children in deepening their relationship with Jesus. The Catechist uses the method of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and adheres to the teachings of the Magisterium.Duties/Responsibilities include:
Room Opening:- Work with the school principal to determine needs of the space being converted into the Atrium.
- Coordinate volunteers to transform the space and under the direction of the Catechist
- Coordinate volunteers to build and procure items and supplies for the Atrium
- If not already trained, actively begin training in July.
Prior to the Session:
- Determines which presentations children will receive that day and practices them prior to the session
- Arrive before Atrium session to prepare the environment and prepare spiritually for the atrium experience.
- Replenishing supplies and materials as needed throughout the atrium.
- Material making/repair as needed for the environment.
- Notify principal of any material or supply needs.
During the Session:
- Maintain a contemplative/prayerful environment
- Welcomes the children and helps them begin their session prayerfully
- Leads group presentations, prayers and processions from the prayer table when needed
- Gives prayerful presentations to individual children based on their development needs, readiness, and the liturgical year
- Keeps accurate records of the children’s work and determines when they will receive their next presentations
- Keep parents up to date with Atrium activities (via Transparent Classroom or Flocknote)
- Creates and sustains an atmosphere of prayer and concentration by redirecting children who become distracting or disruptive to others, helping distracted children find a work that interests them, and helping children ponder questions about God that lead them to prayer
- Maintain order with both behavior and the environment to facilitate the work of the child
After the session:
- Checks if any materials need to be restocked, repaired, or replaced.
- Communicates with Atrium volunteers about how the session went and if any troubleshooting actions are needed
- Report and document any accidents/incidents and behavior issues and share needed information with the parents and Principal
- Replenish supplies as needed in preparation of the next atrium use.
- Communicate shortages to maintain a well-stocked atrium.
Ongoing:
- Speaks regularly with the Coordinator of Religious Education & Coordinator of CGS about the needs of the children, progress in the atrium, items needed for the atrium, any formational help needed for the catechist and Atrium assistants.
The ideal candidate is:
- Trained through a CGSUSA recognized formation course (completed or ongoing)
- Able to lead children in worship through proclaiming scripture, giving prayerful presentations, and lifting up the simple, essential truths of the Catholic faith
- Able to give clear direction and model a prayerful attitude for the children
- Able to observe, listen and respond to the needs of the children
- Able to redirect disruptive or distracted children firmly but positively
- Able to communicate effectively about the children’s needs to the catechist aide
